Description
I own and run a small garden nursery business, from my garden on the edge of Chesterfield in Ashgate. After a very successful first year of attending plant shows, fairs and events, we are very keen to open up our nursery to the public. It is the number one question we are asked by customers - where can they come to buy our plants!
I am looking for 1-2 acres of land in any of the following areas: Chesterfield, Baslow, Bakewell, Matlock, Dronfield or any villages in-between Ashgate and any of these areas. Ideally it would be flat or flat-ish, and have hedging or walls or trees around for security. A water source and road access for the public is also important. Any existing outbuildings, polytunnels or greenhouses would be really advantageous but not absolutely essential as I do have two small greenhouses and I'm more than willing to build from the ground up. The plan is to have a large garden built within the nursery, not just to host my plant mother stock but also as somewhere for customers to visit while at the nursery.
We are an organic and peat free nursery. I do not use pesticides or herbicides under any circumstances. I make the majority of my own fertilisers from plants, but only buy organic when these eventually run out or while I'm waiting for a new batch to brew. I also make my own compost. I am RHS Level 2 qualified in both practical horticulture and the principles of plant growth and development. Before starting my nursery I was previously an Estate Gardener on a large private estate in Nottinghamshire.
We simply cannot manage anymore from our small back garden, we have completely outgrown the space. We are extremely keen to open up to the public so that we can start to generate a more stable income, rather than just fits and bursts from events. That being said, we will still be attending plant shows and fairs as this generates new custom and also develops reputation and new relationships and contacts. If our nursery had a more permanent home, it also means we would be able to look at grants, and having volunteers or apprentices at the nursery too.
We do not have the capital to buy land, so renting is our only option. If you think you may be able to offer our little nursery a home, please get in touch.
